Amitabha Banerjee

Amitabha Banerjees forte is the forceful, economical and successful use of line, whose synergy gives life to her works. This rightly makes him a master of the medium of graphic printmaking. His relationship with the medium began when he participated in a workshop led by American graphic artist Paul Lingren of the Smithsonian Institute in Delhi. At the same time, he was still a student at the Government College of Arts in 1970.

 

Born in 1929 in Bangladesh, Banerjee studied at the Government College of Arts in Calcutta. His major exhibitions include the Third British International Biennial (1972), Western Pacific Print Biennial, Australia (1976), Intergrafik, Germany in 1978 and 1984, Seven Contemporary Artists, Birla Academy of Art and Culture. Kolkata (1978), Indian Prints, Amsterdam (1984), Printmaking in India, Festival of India, USA (1985), the exhibition at the University of Waterloo, Canada (1985) and the Lalit Kala Akademi exhibition, Delhi ( 1985 and 1986), and He was honored by Rabindra Bharati University with the lifetime achievement award in 2008.
