ABOUT THE ARTIST

Creativity is a transfer of energy.

The multitalented Jatin Das has been part of the Indian art scene for more than four decades, with his paintings, murals, and sculptures. The human body exerts an infinite fascination for him and he tirelessly pursues his search for dynamic figures, using a linear structure and rapid brushwork.

Jatin Das believes that every element of life has an inherent energy. This energy is evident in his paintings of men and women, captured in emotional turmoil, portraying the multitude of emotions evoked as a result of people's interaction with society and nature.

The man-woman relationship, in particular, with all the pain and joy that comes with it, is a constant source of inspiration for Jatin Das. The rhythmic discontinuities of color planes and hurried lines characterize his paintings. Jatin focuses on highlighting the subtleties of thought and feeling through the use of color. In particular, it was his paintings of nude or nude figures that gained him recognition in the 1960s and 1970s.

Jatin Das has also been involved with art institutions, in various capacities as a professor at the College of Art, New Delhi, and the National School of Drama, New Delhi, and as a consultant to the Crafts Board and the Folk Art Museum. , Orissa, to mention some of the positions he held. In 1991, Lalit Kala Akademi held a retrospective of his works. In his career, which spans 40 years, Das has only had 37 exhibitions, as he believes that painting is an intensely personal experience, the results of which cannot always be shared with others.
